This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All of my students have an Individual Education Plan to support a deficit in their reading skills. For my 2nd grade students, their reading skills are still missing letter sounds, blending words and phonics. For my 5th graders, their reading skills have 2-year gaps from their grade level. What I love about my students is their desire to learn and read. My students don’t allow their circumstances to bring them down, rather it gives them more drive to succeed.
My Project
Having a variety of books for my students will help them to explore new cultures, world views, and genres. This will help to be better communicators and allow them to share their newly founded experiences with others. Their experiences make great conversation starters with their peers as well as a continued growth in language from all perspectives. Thank you for your support in literacy and building the gaps with our children’s reading. The lessons I would use would help them to predict what the story will be about opening conversations and growing in their knowledge and seeing things from a different perspective.
