This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Being a first-grade teacher is about educating, caring and learning from your students as they learn from you. With the onset of Covid, I've noticed some of my students are struggling with sight words as well as reading in general-the basic ideas of blending out sounds and these sounds becoming words.

By adding decodable readers to my reading groups, I'm able to support all students and incorporate the idea of practicing words in context, help build fluency, and build the readers confidence.

Meeting students where they need support is not only important for them to advance but having the materials available helps support me as the teacher.
