Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bilingual and are learning to be independent readers and writers in Spanish and English. They enjoy reading books, working with robotics, and coding. They like helping each other when they work in groups.
In our class, we are building a classroom family, where everyone matters.
We have school guiding principles we are learning in order to become responsible and respectful citizens. For example, having integrity, everyone matters, and not everyone learns the same way because we are all different.
My Project
My first graders love to read and be read to. They enjoy hearing stories come to life. During readers workshop, they like reading books at their own individual level. They also read with partners and help each other with unknown words.
They are the happiest when they have listening center time.
They have a smile on their face each time it's their turn to hear a book on a CD read to them. Many of them want a second turn right away. They have a blast listening to their favorite as well as new stories and can't wait to turn the page to see what happens next.
