Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The easy-to-read, low-level high-interest books I’m requesting will significantly benefit our ESL students by providing them with engaging reading materials that match their current language skills. Many of our students are in the early stages of acquiring English, and these books will offer them accessible yet stimulating content that fosters both language development and reading enjoyment. By meeting students at their level while still addressing their interests, these books will build their confidence, expand their vocabulary, and improve their reading fluency.
My goal for this project is to create a library collection that empowers ESL students to read independently, explore new topics, and feel proud of their progress.
By offering a variety of culturally relevant, high-interest books, I aim to encourage a lifelong love of reading while improving academic outcomes for our ESL learners. Additionally, these books will promote inclusion by reflecting the diverse backgrounds of our student population, helping them feel seen and valued.
Our students are special because they bring rich cultural perspectives and experiences to the classroom, often speaking multiple languages and overcoming the challenges of adjusting to a new country and educational system. Many of our ESL students face additional barriers, such as limited access to age-appropriate reading material, which can hinder their academic growth. Providing them with the right resources will not only support their English language acquisition but also boost their self-esteem and motivation, ultimately helping them succeed both in school and in life.
