Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders are diverse group of learners. They love to collaborate and learn in interactive ways, whether that be with the teacher, with a group of other students, or by interacting with technology. Most of the students in my class come from low income households and do not have access to technology in their homes. Because of this, they look forward to and are motivated by any chance they have to use and interact with technology in the classroom.

My Project

My students work in small group settings most of the day. Some of this time is spent directly with me or another adult, but much of this time is spent doing independent and group work while I am working with other students. Many of my students need extra support to reach the end of the year reading benchmark.

With these classroom iPads, my students will be able to read picture books or have one read to them, work on phonics skills through online apps and games, and conduct research for writing projects.

The online apps my students would use would be teaching and self-correcting, so my students could benefit from direct feedback even when not working with the teacher. This technology will help all of my students become fluent readers and writers.
