My Students
The students I work with are special education students who attend regular education classes. They have been diagnosed with moderate to severe dyslexia and reading fluency issues. They all express interest in attending college.
They are motivated to learn yet are held back by their reading weaknesses that make independent learning slow and tedious.
Despite their frustrations my students all come eagerly to reading class every day, all year, as we work together to make reading and writing less of a chore.
My Project
My class will be structured so that 5 students will be using the Chromebooks for their reading program while I work with the other 5 students on grammar and reading across the curriculum. They will switch the second half hour of class.
With the Chromebooks, cases and headphones, I will be able to engage all of the students for every minute of the class.
With college as their goal, the Read Naturally program is a natural choice to increase their rate of reading and the students' comprehension of what they have read. By providing reliable, up to date technology, they can utilize both the internet and hands-on instruction every day.
