My Students

"Why are we here?" is what I always ask my second-grade students every day. They always answer with a resounding, "To do our best and learn something new!" as they enter my class with smiles on their tiny faces.

Our elementary school has a high number of students who are high-poverty.

Even though we have to cater to and adapt to such a diverse range of learning needs, we strongly believe that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology. As their second grade teacher, my main objective is to enhance and improve their young learning experiences, especially when it pertains to their learning environment.

My Project

Our reading classroom is in dire need of new online enhancement programs to enrich our reading curriculum. With vocabulary programs like Flocabulary, our 3rd-grade reading students can not only improve their literacy skills- but also open the doors of their imagination.

Last year, we were fortunate to furnish our classroom with new literature, but some students still struggled with vocabulary and fluency skills.

This made me realize that I had to furnish my classroom to fill the needs of my students and nourish their desire to read. I decided to request an effective vocabulary program that they can access online, whether they are in the library, at home, in school or on a cell phone.

Multiple studies have shown that imagining stories helps activate the regions of your brain responsible for better understanding others and seeing the world from a new perspective.
