This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle school and high school students who are mostly of Hispanic and African-American cultures, who live in a low-income area, where they do not get exposed to enough books and hands-on skills and activities. Covid has impacted the students' learning by lowering their skills because it has reduced the books and materials that they could access.
My students are curious learners.
They want hands-on activities and good books that will keep their attention and help them learn academic cooperative and social skills in a fun way. My students are happy and want to have materials and books that stimulate their minds. Sometimes all it takes is exposure to fun learning processes and activities to open up motivation and a drive to learn more and ask more questions. My students have endless possibilities if given the chance and encouragement.
My Project
The books purchased will continue to enhance the print-rich learning environment that I strive to create. My library is a place that my students really enjoy coming in to get books that they enjoy reading independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and the students are all thankful for the opportunities to read a wide selection of books. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have watched them these first few weeks of school read titles just like these. I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading and would like to see added to the library. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level while expanding their "Reading Horizons".
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences and expand their "Reading Horizons".
