Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Books are a must for my students. Great books by Eric Carle are a necessity for them.

They come into school every day eager to learn something new.

We are a Title I school with close to 600 students. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who need additional materials to support learning new vocabulary and skills simultaneously. Many people have said that our school is a hidden treasure, and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a small neighborhood, we do not receive much community support to fund classroom needs. Many of our teachers purchase materials independently or seek funding for materials.

My Project

The parents will practice how to read these books, then take them home to read to their children. Our hope is they will read to their school-age children and their younger children who will be with us soon. The children, in turn, will learn the stories for each book and this is the next step in learning how to read. They will also learn how letters make up words and the sounds the letters make. Afterward, the students will be able to read the book to their parents and their younger and older siblings as well as their partners at school. Much can come from two books you can give them.

Early language exposure is necessary and great books will help both our children and their parents and what better way to begin than with Eric Carle.

Thank you for supporting my students in their early literacy goals.
