My students need a variety of Spanish books such as "El Salvador", "Retirate Joven Y Rico", and "Cuentos Naturales" to read that spark their interest.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If you've ever tried learning a new language, you know how accomplished you feel when you read a book all on your own. Many of my students read very well. Other than our textbook, our library has a very limited amount of Spanish books to offer. Hopefully you can change that!
I'm very fortunate to teach students eager to lead the future.
Although some students come from a single-parent family household, they don't let this affect them in their studies. In fact, they are forced to grow up fast and help out their families by either working after school and taking care of their siblings. If this is not the case, some parents have 2 jobs just to make ends meet and provide basic necessities. My students are awesome, there is never a boring day and are always a pleasure to teach. They are eager to learn! Our school enrolls on average 830 students yearly and it is located in a impoverished area of California. With all of the budget cuts that California has had to endure over the last couple of years it has had an adverse effect on the amount of aid that is given to our school. Furthermore, our World Languages Department has low funds since the focus is mostly on the core subjects such English, Math and Science.
My Project
This past October, I took my class to the school library to do research on a project. Much of the research had to be done online because there were not enough books for my students to look through. Since then, I have thought that it would be wonderful if I could have a small library within my classroom of Spanish books so that anytime my students want to read when they are done with an assignment or come ask for a book to read for leisure, I have a something to offer. In fact, I would like to start including silent reading time in a portion of our schedule's 2 hour block so that students can get in the habit of reading in Spanish. My students need a variety of Spanish books such as El Salvador, Retirate Joven Y Rico, and Cuentos Naturales to read that spark their interest. With these they may improve their skills of reading and writing since they go hand in hand. My students love to read, they will learn to love their history, culture and language through reading. I know I cannot teach them everything and sometimes one learns best from self-discovery. Why not discover while reading?
Inspire students to continue reading in their native language.
Give them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and hone the skills they have been developing while learning/polishing their Spanish. The books we receive will not only impact the current classes I teach but those who are yet to come. I am sure once the books come the students won't be able to put them down. I am sure that once they have read all of them, they will ask for more.
