Most of my students have not discovered the benefits of reading on their own. I want to create a space that will be inviting to the idea of independent reading.
My students are wonderful, young people who need more access to quality reading books.
I want to get them excited about reading and get them to see not only the educational benefits to reading, but other benefits as well. Reading can allow students to have access to so much information and ideas and can allow them to think more critically.
My Project
The reading center will be accessible throughout the day. I want it to be a space where they can go when they want a quiet space to read. There will be an option to sit on the rug or to sit in the chairs. The books will be beautifully displayed on the bookcase, so students will have access to a variety of books.
I hope that by creating this space, the students will feel more comfortable with their level of reading and will want to continue to read on their own and in small groups.
I want my students to become lifelong learners and I hope by creating a welcoming corner that is dedicated to reading, it will be a first step.
