My Students
My students struggle with the high reading comprehension demands being asked of them.
My ESOL students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Many of them are born in the United States. They are learning English as a second (or third) language. The majority of them are eligible for free/reduced lunch. They are all eager to learn.
My Project
My students will use these task cards in a variety of ways. With a partner or in small groups they will be able to practice targeted reading comprehension skills by reading the card and answering the included questions. I will also use these cards with individual or small groups of students to model reading comprehension strategies. Learning using task cards is a fun and engaging method for my ESOL students.
These reading comprehension task cards will make a valuable difference for my students. They will help my students learn grade level reading comprehension skills just as their native English speaking peers. These skills will help them in school and for many years to come.
