This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a community that has over 50 percent low income families. Therefore, the resources are scarce for our school. However, the students are bright, eager, and intelligent; they are ready to discover something new every day! They are curious and invested in their education.
This 1st grade class is a team of superheroes ready to learn and develop their minds!
This class is very special and has taught me so much about engagement and how teaching is more than just teaching to curriculum and instruction. Teaching goes far beyond that!
My Project
These materials will really help my small groups learn comprehension skills to better understand the stories they read. I need more resources to use during small group to help students practice the skills outside of whole-group. These materials would be a great resource for my students to raise their scores in their reading. In a low income community, it can be difficult to find enough resources to help support every child at their level. However, with these materials, I know my students will be engaged and look forward to the practice. The sight word journals would be a great way for the students to become more fluent readers.
