Bonjour! My students are enthusiastic French learners at a wonderfully diverse Title I high school on the Island of Maui. More than half of the students come from low income households.
My students are eager to take on the challenge of acquiring a new language which includes reading, listening, speaking, and writing in French.
They love learning about the culture of various French speaking countries. Reading intriguing level appropriate books in French will help students gain proficiency.
My Project
A great way to improve language proficiency is to read. In this project French readers will be used for whole class, small group, and individual reading. Distinguished French teacher Cécile Lainé wrote theses books specifically for French learners. The books are easy to read and comprehend and have lots of high-frequency words and structures.
Cécile Lainé's French readers have interesting and diverse characters that students will find compelling.
These easy to read books will help student gain not only proficiency but confidence in using French.
Students spent so much time reading on computers last year it will be nice to have actual books to hold and read while in the classroom this school year.
