My Project

If you can read this donation project, thank a teacher. Reading is one of the most fundamental skills in the world.

Unfortunately, in today's world, students' rather spend time on their phones and apps than pick up a good book and get lost in the story; so how do we as teachers help students WANT to read?

I believe the answer may lie in trading card games (TCGs). TCGs such as Pokemon and Magic the Gathering offer a lot of chances for students to work on their English reading, vocabulary, and speaking skills. They also offer wonderful opportunities for students to form friendships and bonds. TCGs require students to read card texts, learn how cards and their abilities work while playing, engage in critical thinking skills of how and when to play (use) a card, and communicate with opponents regarding their moves and strategy. TCGs give students numerous chances to work on a lot of important life skills.

Playing card games also offers chances for students to achieve intrinsic rewards because are driven by the sheer desire of wanting to win and beat their friends.

In this project I am asking for Pokemon cards to give to students as prizes for finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in our monthly TCG tournaments to celebrate all their hard work and accomplishments.
