Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our library is the heart of our school. The students I serve are enthusiastic about reading and love visiting the library. They are kind, caring students who embrace each others' differences. I would like for them to have access to great examples of literature they can relate to.

Our library serves a diverse student population that deserves a selection of books that can be windows to the world and mirrors that reflect themselves and their cultures.

We are a Title 1 elementary school in Texas where 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and would benefit from having books in which they can experience the world while making connections to their culture.

My Project

Our school library is in need of more diverse books for my students to read. The books I am asking for reflect the student population and languages spoken. By reading these books, students will improve their vocabulary and comprehension. This will help them become better writers. Some of the books are in Spanish and English. My second language learners will develop their reading fluency in Spanish as well as English

Students who read these engaging books will have opportunities to explore the world around them and connect to characters that are like themselves.

Students will also increase their reading stamina while enjoying a great read.
