This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students can't remember the last book they read, so they certainly are not reading by choice. They are reluctant readers who rarely read for pleasure.

My students come from a high-poverty area where books may not be a high priority in their homes.

When parents need to make a choice about food and books or educational materials, hands down, food wins. With your contribution, I hope to engage my students in high-interest literacy and get them excited about reading.

My Project

My students need 16 copies of exciting literary materials like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Ramona Quimby" for our Balanced Literacy block. I get a great deal of pleasure when students get excited to read in my classroom. We talk about the characters, main idea and most important, how this story can relate to their own lives. To open a book is to explore and create a world of imagination.

Without your support, many students would not have access to these books and so many other materials that come from your generous contributions.
