My Students
My students are a curious and talented group of third graders in an ICT special education integrated classroom. Most of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch and come from low income neighborhoods. We try to make our classroom an oasis, a happy and peaceful place that fosters learning and exploration.
It is important for me to provide my students with all of the resources they might not have otherwise, since school is often the stepping stone to break the cycle of poverty in families.
I am passionate about what I do and seeing my students learning and growing justifies all of the hard work that I do.
My Project
Unfortunately, reading is not always a third grader's favorite past time. But reading is so important as we enter into the world of chapter books, state testing, and reading to learn, not just learning to read. Sometimes reading for long periods of time is very difficult for my students. That's why I would love to introduce them to book buddies.
Book Buddies are stuffed animals of popular book characters that students can read to during independent reading time.
They bring comfort and joy to students while they are growing their brains. Having this special treat makes reading a fun time for students who might not otherwise enjoy it. It is my goal to instill a love of reading in all of my students. I would love for it to be their favorite part of their day... and a hobby that they take with them for life!
