Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Pre-k to 5 school. We recently have invited older students with our school community in grades 4 and 5 to come down to read to our kindergarten students.

Older students come and become reading buddies with our kindergarten kids to help increase their love for learning, and increase their listening stamina.

We are hoping to increase our supplies and book titles so we cane share them across the grade. Our 5th graders have asked our kids some of their favorite titles to listen to. We are requesting multiple copies so that during the time they are with us they do not need to share the titles. We are also asking for some new Spring titles that the students will be hearing for the first time. Our 5th graders helped us find titles that they would like to share with the students. This is giving our 5th grade students to help within their own community and give back to others. It is helping to increase awareness of the importance of reading as well.

This new program with our older students coming down to kindergarten has been successful thus far and we would love your help growing this program.

Currently we have Mystery readers where readers from the neighborhood community come in and read to our students. We have had moms, dads, grandparents, bus drives, firefighters and safety agents. These new book would allow us to increase both community programs.
