This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing; they have an overwhelming desire to learn. They love to learn new things and share their ideas, opening their minds and hearts to accept the world around them. They have so many bright and loving personalities.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx where many of my students receive free breakfast and lunch; despite the hardships they face at home my students come to school ready and eager to learn about the world around them.
My Project
My students are lower level readers. These books will be used to help offer students reading genres that will not only be on their reading level, but will offer them an exciting and interesting window into the world of literacy. Many students have expressed that they do not have books at home to read. This is becoming a sad but true reality that is having a devastating effect on our students. These books will offer them the freedom to read independently as well as with peers. Having exposure to these materials will also impact students' discussions as well enhance their writing and communication skills. The students will be able to use the comfy seats to develop a special place where they will be able to read in a stress free zone.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
