This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time that you were able to read a book? To recognize and remember words that you had learned. My students want to become readers, and the Leapfrog Tag reading books to go with their Tag readers will help encourage and engage them, increasing their desire to read!
My students are kindergarteners at a high poverty school in Arizona.
While this community does not have much, I have watched as the school and students pulled together to organize food and blanket drives to help the homeless, sponsored each other with the Christmas Angel project and continuously look out for one another. Some of my students have the ability to attend full day kindergarten (our district charges a monthly fee for this) and some of my students are only with me for 2 hours and 45 minutes a day! All of my students, regardless of the amount of time they spend at school each day, want to learn and long to be able to read!
My Project
With our technology obsessed world, it is no wonder that my students love technology as well. I am requesting the Leapfrog Tag reader books so that I may use them in centers. Instead of having children follow along with a book on CD, this system will allow each child to listen to the book at their own pace. They can choose to listen to the whole book, or use the pen to point to words and as the child points to the word the pen will read it to them. Students can point to pictures and the pen will identify the item, helping to build vocabulary.
Kindergarten is the age where fostering a love for learning and reading is important.
I believe that using the Leapfrog Tag reader system with a variety of tag books will help engage as well as push my students into become kids who love to read!
