My students come to school excited to see their friends, read their books, and learn new things. We are in a school that encourages open discussion between teacher, student, and family. This kind of open environment can also be seen in our classroom.
My class consists of students of many different cultures and races who can speak more than one language at home.
Some of these languages include Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Farsi. Our class is truly a melting pot of learners!
My Project
First grade is a crucial year for students to build their independence in many areas such as reading. It is important for our kids to not only learn and practice their reading skills in school but also at home. Therefore, I make sure to assign reading every night and encourage students to take home books from our classroom library.
With these book pouches, students will be excited about choosing books to take home and bring back to school.
We are currently using zip-loc bags, which oftentimes rip. I also want to be environmentally friendly by showing my students the importance of reusing through these sturdy book pouches.
