Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students are drawn to what interests them. For many students, though, reading is a chore because they don't always see their interests or identities in the "important books" traditionally found in schools. Thus, reading stops when the bell rings. This project will help fund our classroom library where students can select supplemental texts for independent reading.
I want to foster a love of reading with my students that they will carry through life.
Reading requires patience and determination, and those can be learned when familiarity is seen in the stories one reads. When the students recognize themselves in literature, they in turn believe in their abilities as readers.
