My Project
As a first year media specialist, I am trying to build a diverse library collection that will appeal to all students and entice them to read for pleasure. My graphic novel and manga section is hugely popular with students, but is in need of new, updated material.
Incorporating more graphic novels and manga into my school library would help create a more inclusive, engaging, and diverse reading environment that can support students' literacy development while fostering a lifelong love of reading.
Graphic novels and manga are a great way to engage reluctant readers and those who may struggle with traditional novels. The visual elements can make stories more accessible, helping students better understand narrative structure, character development, and themes. Manga offers students exposure to different cultural storytelling traditions and artistic styles. This broadens their understanding of the world, offering perspectives that they might not normally encounter and teaching them to empathize with those different from them.
There are so many ways that my students would benefit from the addition to the library of these graphic novels and manga.
