This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My current 5th graders are joining my Virtual Distance classroom regularly and are working hard to ensure that we learn even from a Distance! My school is located in California and my classroom consist of African American and Latino students. We are also a Title One School which means that most families live below poverty. My school qualified to help families in need by providing breakfast, lunch, and an after school free of cost. Due to the pandemic our district decided to shut down schools for the safety of everyones health. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have experience history as we are learning from a distance! Every student comes to my class ready for a new beginning filled with challenges yet eager to take chances and become the best they can be! My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of curiosity! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging lessons, and challenges that allow them to think deeper. I noticed that we are running low in materials and resources that will help us continue building our skills. Please help my students who need help now more than ever.
My Project
My students enjoy reading a good book! We are currently learning from home which makes it difficult for students to follow along as I read aloud. If we were in our classroom I made sure each student has access to a book in where they re⁸ad, learn note taking skills, ask critical thinking questions, and practice reading fluency skills such as expression. The books Esperanza Rising and The one and only Bob are grade level books that will help my students learn culture, character traits, story elements, and reading skills. Like mentioned, students listen to me read aloud daily but I would like for us to read together and to discuss the story as a whole group. This donation will benefit my students by providing my fifth graders access to the books needed in order to provide an engaging lesson and by having the right tools to succeed! Thank you in advance my students will really enjoy these great best selling books!
