Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students come from low-income families, single-parent households, and foster homes. The majority of my students come from Hispanic and African American families. The school I work for is a Title I school where students are living below the poverty line and the school provides free breakfast, lunch, and after school hot meal.
Facing home challenges and other problems, my students absolutely love learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!My class includes students with special needs, such as one-on-one support and Individual Educational Plans, and ELD students.Every student comes to my class ready for a new beginning filled with challenges yet eager to take chances and become the best they can be! My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of curiosity! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging lessons, and challenges that allow them to think deeper.
My Project
Due to the current pandemic we are teaching from home and students are learning from their home. This year I'm teaching Fifth grade and I would like to increase reading skills and spark interest by using the Scholastic Scripted plays that contain 30 copies. I will use both printed and digital copy for current teaching situation and hopefully when we return to normal schooling soon. Because we are learning from home it is difficult to promote reading as most students do not have the resources to purchase a book, this donation will greatly influence reading and theatre skills.
Usually students were able to borrow classroom library books, but with your generosity they will each receive a copy of each play to promote reading fluency, theatre skills, social skills, and for something fun to look forward to.
The book sets will allow me to read aloud great stories to deepen comprehension and spark interest. I will use the books to read, create writing assignments based on the reading, and also to expose my students to various great literature books.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
