My Students

A typical day in room 116 is crazy, fun-filled, determined, and always busy!

My class is filled with happy, smart, funny, energetic students who come to school each day ready to learn and teach us teachers something new.

My classroom is a classroom for students with disabilities in grades K-5. Students range in disabilities, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, downs syndrome, and other health impaired. But those are just labels, my students are bright in their own ways and are very determined to learn new things. We start the day every day with a smile and greeting each other, many times with hugs and high-fives. We are faced with many challenges throughout the day but we never say "I can't," we might do things a little differently but we will still accomplish our goals. At any point you come into our classroom you will see students reading in out reading nook filled with comfy pillows and stuffed animals, you can see students working hard on the computer learning our letters and sounds and beginning to read. We stay engaged all day.

My Project

By having a rolling easel my students will be allowed to learn in all areas of the classroom. We will be able to complete a morning message in which students will have the opportunity to come up and fill-in missing letters or words. We will be able to read various big books on the topics we are learning by having the books at our fingertips and a place to lean the books while reading. This easel will allow all students access to building words and then writing them on their own. Magnetic letters can help promote letter and sound recognition as well as sorting activities. The possibilities are endless with this great resource.

The easel will improve our classroom by allowing my students a way to access a whiteboard in all areas of the classroom.

It will allow students to feel proud of themselves when they are able to write and read various words we are working on as well as a kinestic approach to learning, which works best for my students. My shining stars will shine more brightly when they can begin to read independently.
