Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is nestled in the heart of the city right outside of Downtown Houston. Our location comes with a unique set of circumstances including high poverty and gang affiliation, but has the beautiful backdrop of The Downtown Houston skyline symbolizing hope. Our students come to school every day and make the decision to focus on the hope and optimism. Many of my students' families are unable to provide basic school necessities in an effort to merely make it day to day amongst the negative circumstances they face.
My Project
Access and application are the basis for learning. Writing is a skill and my students will be able to utilize these markers and notebooks this year to practice writing through various real world applications. The ability to write daily and interact with texts will provide long reaching results. By helping me to provide basic access to these materials, my students and their families can rest assured they are prepared for success this school year instead of wondering how to provide it. Specifically the notebooks will serve as a personalized textbook created by them through the year and the other supplies will provide them other ways to explore texts.
