This year we have a focus on building character.
All students are different and the teachers and I work hard to meet the needs of every learner in our building. The first few weeks of school we will complete learning goals to guide our learning and so the children can help build the type of environment that will help them learn best!
We are a Title I school and have a high population of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
These books were each selected for a wonderful purpose. Students in first grade need practice in vocabulary, writing, and phonics. We need to use mentor texts intentionally to teach each skill. Students love read aloud time, and research shows that reading aloud to students from a very young age shows significant growth in their future.
Reading aloud every day is an essential part of building our classroom family.
Books like Perfect, Real Cowboys, and Trees of Peace provide rich vocabulary experiences for these young readers. I can't wait to see the writing that occurs because of having the experience of these mentor texts.
