Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Written communication is an art form that must be explicitly taught as well as practiced. Students need to be exposed to writing in a variety of genres and content areas including math. I want all my students to leave third grade feeling like true authors.
My students reside in an mostly industrial neighborhood.
The streets are tough and in many cases home is as well. They lack the basics such as books at home. Parents work long hours to make ends meet and in many cases school is my students' only happy place.
My Project
I am requesting 6 book sets from levels L-O to provide my students with individualized reading instruction. Students will use the leveled reading books to practice specific reading skills they need to become grade level proficient. They will also use these books to write book reports. In addition, I am requesting Daily Prompt Journals that will help students with writing on demand. Students will use the journals to practice different types of writing such as narratives, persuasive, and expository. Having a place where student collect their writing and can see their progress will help them set goals and monitor their growth. I am also requesting Daily Math Practice journals because it is necessary for students to be able to explain the process for solving problems. Many times students do well with computation but lack the ability to express in writing their problem solving process.
Please help my students become proficient readers and writers.
Written communication is essential for students' academic success. I want to provide my students with a high quality education regardless of the zip code they reside in. Please consider making a difference in the lives of 28 third graders. Writing and reading is power and I want to empower all my students with the right skills.
