Reading and Writing Easel Center for Young Readers and Writers!
My students need a new easel for our classroom. Our current one is over eleven years old and is falling apart. This new easel is perfect for engaging young children in literacy.
My students are from the City of Champions! They are overly excited about everything new and love to learn through hands-on discovery. Most of them come to school with a smile and a story to tell each morning. Throughout the day, they work hard to achieve our daily goals, both academically and behaviorally.
However, these mini champions face a lot of challenges on their pathways to success and higher learning.
Almost all of them receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we all eat breakfast in the classroom every morning to ensure each child has a healthy start to the day. They may not have the materials they need at home to complete projects and assignments. Some do not have a home to go to when the school day is done.
Our district has consistently lost funding at the state level over the past few years. The upcoming year will be no different with cuts having been made across the board which will affect our students in serious ways. My goal is to ensure my students have the materials and tools they need to grow into the champions they are meant to be!
My Project
The classroom easel is a focal point in my classroom. Each morning we gather around it to read our morning message and set the tone for our day. We use it during most of our whole group lessons as it is large enough for all of the students to see, and the students love having an opportunity to come up in front of their peers and write on the easel.
Unfortunately, our current easel is over eleven years old, and many of its original features have either broken off or no longer work.
The magnetic portion of it is no longer magnetic, the big book/marker ledge broke off years ago, and it no longer locks into place. It is one bump away from completely collapsing.
When I came across the Reading Writing Center easel, I knew it would be the perfect update to my current easel. It includes a magnetic, dry erase surface which would be perfect for phonics and word study lessons. It also includes an additional lined dry erase board which would help in those oh so fun handwriting lessons. It has a big book ledge and holder, baskets for storing markers and other writing accessories, wheels so both sides can be easily utilized, a lifetime warranty, and more! I can already picture my class gathered around it every morning and afternoon.
This easel would be engaging, educational, interactive, and both teacher and child friendly. It would be a great addition to our classroom.
