My students need the ECR4Kids Surf Portable Lap Desk, so that they will be able to choose a comfortable spot to READ! Trying to find a comfortable position to read can be distracting!
My students are as young as 4 and as old as 14! I work in a PreK-8th-grade public school. I am one of the few teachers in our building that has the privilege of instructing ALL of our students! That is because I am the only Multi-Media teacher at our school! The students in my building are from various socio-economic backgrounds. Some of the students have learning and or physical disabilities. Some of the students recently moved to the United States. Some of them have one or both parents serving in the military. Several military students have parents who are currently deployed. Relaxing and reading in the Library is a popular choice of many students. It gives them the opportunity to destress from their everyday school concerns as well as their home concerns.
Whatever their story is, they are always welcome in our school library!
My Project
Studies say that being a "restless reader" can distract and deter students from reading. By providing my students with options for seating, such as the portable lap desk, or the floor seat cushion-I am giving them a choice. A choice to sit in an alternate spot and read, therefore allowing them to find their best "reading position." Once they are comfortable, they will automatically read for longer periods of time.
When students have a choice, they are more focused and have taken the lead in their learning process!
I want our school's library to be comfortable and accessible to all of our amazing students.
