My Students

My students are eager to return to hands-on and outdoor learning after being virtual for a year.

They've been through a lot during the pandemic and are hoping for a more normal school year. Many students have lost family members to COVID-19, making their normally challenging home lives even more difficult during quarantine and virtual instruction.

Every week, over four hundred students will rotate through my classroom for STEM lessons. We will be learning about our world through hands-on investigations and lessons. By combining Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, students will be learning how to think through problems and come up with solutions.

My Project

My students do a lot of hands-on activities and design quite a bit. We are still having a bit of trouble taking turns and working together, though. We need a fun way to practice without having it turn into a boring task. Playing games will be a way to work on teamwork and turn-taking without seeming like a daunting task.

This project will give my students books to be inspired by about African American people in STEM and games like Yahtzee and Battleship to play together to enhance their teamwork skills.
