This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with language. They may not have many opportunities at home after school or on weekends to practice their English skills.

All of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.

Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day-to-day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good working habits in order to succeed in the future!

My Project

Scholastic News Magazine makes reading non-fiction fun for students. They create reading material for my youngest learners, Grades K/1. They are easy to follow and constructed in a way to get the attention of young students.

The students feel like readers of their world!

They get to learn and read about many different aspects of the world, from animals to nature, places to people, and how things work around them.

Reading a Scholastic News Magazine once a week gives the students something great to look forward to every week. The students also get to take home the magazine and share what they have learned with their family.
