My Students
The students in my class and school come from a diverse socioeconomic background. Some of my students are learning english and need access to Spanish books to read at home. My students work really hard and enjoy school. They take advantage of all opportunities that our school gives to them.
I want my students to be able to learn the english language but also give them access to books in their native language.
Unfortunately, I only see my students in class 2 days a week. I want them to be able to have books to read at home in their native language while they learn english at school.
My Project
For the first time in my career I have students that are learning english in my class. It is hard to have them read entry level english books at home with no support when they can read higher level books in their native language and comprehend what they are reading. While reading entry level english books in school I could have them take native language books home to read and complete online school work with. It has been fascinating watching these students learn english but I would also like them to feel success reading higher level texts in their native language.
