My Students
Imagine you are back in fifth grade, looking for that one good book that's going to inspire you to begin your reading journey. For many students, it takes a while to kick start their love of reading. However, it only take that one book or series to spark the light students need to begin their lifetime reading journey.
Reading is the pivotal skill our students will need for the rest of their lives and mastering it is the first step in the right direction of a successful future.
That's why it is imperative that students be exposed to a variety of texts, fiction and nonfiction, so they can stuff their brains with all the information possible in the 180 days they are with their teachers in the school year.
The students in my classroom are diverse students. Some are supported, with involved families and other are not. I want my classroom to be a place of equality. I want all my students no matter the background to feel involved with their own learning experiences.
My Project
Our classroom is full of motivated readers and not so motivated readers. I want all of my students to become self-directed, motivated learners. It is so important that students have choice in their reading. I want them to be able to choose the topics and genre so that they take control of their reading success.
My students need all the words they can get their hands on!
My students do a variety of different kinds of reading. We do independent reading, guided reading and shared reading. We need single books as well as book sets.
Finally finding your favorite book, makes all the difference in a reader's life and I want one of these to do that for a student in my class.
