Help me give my students the chance to read and listen to books about different seasons and holidays. My students love the "There Was an Old Lady Who..." series. There will be cheers when these books are revealed.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello! We are a second grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the South Bronx. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
We are super eager learners.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if its writing, social studies, or math. There are future scientists in this classroom who will be very successful dealing with electricity or out in the wilderness identify different animal adaptations. What can I say? We are great!
My Project
Each and every day, as a class, we sit around the carpet and read a book together. For many students, read alouds are the best part of the day. This is a chance to listen to a story or book that maybe they could not read independently. Students get a chance to listen and enjoy books as a class. During read alouds, students also have the chance to share their thinking, questions, and predictions with their peers. Read alouds give students the opportunity to be exposed to books outside their reading levels. Read alouds also give students the chance to learn about topics that they may not have chosen.
My students are always so excited to read books about the different holidays and seasons that their families celebrate.
This project will allow my students to be exposed to topics that they are interested and excited to read about.
After specific read alouds, I allow my students to do different reading or writing activities. As seven and eight year olds, they love doing crafts! Many of these books will incorporate both, extension activities to grow their thinking and reflect on the book and enjoy a fun craft that goes along with the theme or idea.
