Reading About Superheroes Gives Us Reading Superpowers

My students need 26 easy to read books about superheroes.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Barton's classroom raised $281

This project is fully funded

I am the school librarian in a k-8 school. We are located in a neighborhood plagued by poverty, gangs, and crime. We have a dedicated teaching staff and caring parents; still our students are struggling to read. Although our administration stresses literacy skills, our budget has no money for the library this year. I am working to build an exciting collection, but there are still areas in which we fall short, especially for young boys.

This is the third year that our library has been open. Students have become eager library patrons. The few easy-reader superhero books in our collection have become favorites of the younger students. They request these constantly. We have no Spongebob Squarepants books, but these are also frequently requested, especially by boys in first through fourth grades.

Our young boys would be delighted to find new easy-reader superhero titles. I know the books would fly off my shelves. Studies have proven that reading abilities and comprehension soar when students are able to self-select reading material. Reading these books would be a pleasurable way for my students to increase their skills.

Your help would make browsing my shelves and selecting new library books much more exciting for my young readers. By providing them with material they dearly want to read, you would be enabling them to develop their reading abilities to the superpower level.
