Reading About Our Role Models!

My students need books about leaders who made the world a better place!

My Students

My second graders come from all over the world. They each bring their own unique talents and experiences to the classroom and are incredibly excited about learning.

They are full of energy and enthusiasm and are beginning to come together to support one another!

They are passionate and love learning! As we read stories, they are constantly examining the illustrations and making observations that they are eager to share with one another. They are always asking questions, wondering why things work the way they do, or how things come about. They love working together with one another and encouraging each other to become leaders!

My Project

It has always been my goal as a teacher, not just to educate my students, but to inspire them to make the world a better place. This year as we began studying nonfiction, we took a deep look at some leaders who made the world a better place. I wanted my children to see that even though there are problems in this world, there is always something we can do to make the world a better place. My little leaders loved diving into books about leaders; however, the texts weren't always at their level and often they craved to know more.

My class will use these texts to learn lessons about grit, resilience, growth mindset, and working together to make our community better, while also diving into nonfiction skills.

I see us using these texts that are on their levels to practice finding the main idea and detail, asking and answering questions, and comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic.
