This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.

Our students are always eager and ready to learn for the day.

One hundred percent of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our students come from a variety of different backgrounds, experiences, and opportunities. Our diversity allows us to have a wide array of experiences which can be drawn upon by creating an engaging classroom environment where all students are able to focus and thrive. Student success is our number one priority.

My Project

This year I have found my students had two interests - Magic Tree House books and Jackie Robinson. We have recently read as a class, "Who was Jackie Robinson?" by Gail Herman. When my students found out Jackie Robinson was in one of the Magic Tree House books they asked if we could read the book together as a class. This resource will be meaningful because it allows students to take ownership in their learning. My students requested this book, and inspired me to create this project. This resource will help students to compare and contrast Jackie Robinson in the fictional chapter book to a non-fiction chapter book. They will determine if any facts were changed or if the author changed any characteristics of Jackie Robinson. This resource will help students build their comparing and contrasting skills, reading fluency and comprehension.
