Help me give my students a classroom library filled with engaging books to help develop their love for reading!

My Project

My first-grade students are preparing to take on an exciting leadership role in our school community through a student-led service initiative that promotes literacy and mentorship. As part of a weekly buddy reading program, my students will pair with kindergarten “reading buddies” to practice decoding, build sight word fluency, read engaging books, and play literacy games together. This program will not only strengthen reading skills but also give my students the opportunity to serve others, build empathy, and grow as leaders.

To make this student-led program a success, we need engaging and developmentally appropriate resources.

The Danny and the Dinosaur, Biscuit, Paddington, and Berenstain Bears I Can Read box sets will provide leveled books that students can enjoy together during buddy reading sessions. The hand2mind Elkonin Boxes and Lakeshore Letter Crayons Word Building Center will offer interactive, hands-on phonemic awareness and word-building practice—essential for our early readers. Sight Word Bingo will make high-frequency word practice fun and engaging for both mentors and buddies. To ensure our budding readers can focus and engage deeply, we’ll use the 12 colorful Privacy Boards to create cozy, distraction-free reading nooks for one-on-one buddy sessions. The Eamay Boho Calendar Pocket Chart will help us structure and track our weekly buddy reading schedule and goals, allowing students to take ownership of their time and responsibilities during the program.

We’ll use Expo Dry Erase Markers for whiteboard practice and games, while the ArtAt Paper Cutter will help me prepare activities, games, and take-home materials for each reading pair. With your support, this project will give my students the tools they need to serve their school, boost literacy skills, and grow as confident readers and caring leaders.
