This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My student have a strong desire to read and expand their knowledge. They are inquisitive, smart, friendly, and overall really good people. They are on their way to many great things in life, but they need a little help getting there. For 30 minutes a day, everyone in the school (students and teachers) stops what they are doing to read. "It's the absolute best time of the day," I often hear my students say. It is a time when our school participates in a culture that values the importance of reading a good book.

Because my students absolutely love reading, they quickly make their way through our entire classroom library.

In order to increase the reading engagement in my classroom, I had the students create a book "shopping list" at the end of the year for my new students. All of the books in this project are from their shopping list!

This year, all of my students will become better readers. Through one-on-one and small group conferences, my students with lower reading levels will build confidence and make strong strides. Students with higher reading levels will continue to excel and become even better readers by the end of the 7th grade. By supporting my students' project, you will be adding engaging and interesting texts to our library where students can see themselves represented in their chosen stories.
