Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love the cultural diversity and multiple intelligences that my students bring to our learning environment. Every student contributes their own personal experiences, interests, and talents that enliven our daily learning experiences.

This school year I will be working with a group of 20 students, eight are English Language Learners, and two are diverse learners with individualized educational plans.

What makes them special is their resilience and perseverance to overcome challenges in their own learning experiences. My students thrive when they are given choice and encouraged to find the answers to their own lingering questions. The greatest satisfaction is guiding my students through their own inquiry and observing their elation when they have succeeded at a task.

My Project

I'm asking for the following books to assist with my mini lessons and guided reading lessons. The books will not only help teach important reading and writing strategies, but they consist of topics that support cultural, social, and environmental awareness as well. Many of the titles can also be integrated into my science and social science curriculum. Thus, they will be an integral part of my curriculum.

My students love read alouds, and if the titles are chosen carefully, the discussions that arise from the books lead students to express their personal ideas; additionally, they learn to listen and appreciate their peers' perspectives as well.
