Our school is a Title I school serving just under 400 kindergarten through fourth grade students. The community is a small, rural town with many farming families. The school really is the heart of this small town, with many community involvement activities every year. We are working hard to make sure the school library is the heart of the school.
Our vision is to transform the library into a collaborative learning space that encourages reading, exploration and creativity utilizing many different types of resources and activities.
We are building a collaborative, flexible learning space in the library. Students learn to be readers, thinkers, creators, and good digital citizens.
My Project
There are many changes happening at our school library. We have rearranged our space to maximize thinking and learning opportunities. We have centers with activities that support literacy, creative thinking, and digital citizenship. These centers have been very effective in transforming the library experience for grades 2-4. The next step is to continue this transformation for our youngest learners.
Our goal is to create a "Future Ready Library" that transforms the library experience for all students.
We want to create opportunities for learning that engage even our youngest students in critical thinking, collaboration and authentic, real-world problem-solving. We need resources that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for primary students. We are requesting donations to buy early learning activities for library centers. Activities include a Remote Control Gear-bot, which will allow students to build a working robot, a Create-A-Chain Reaction STEM kit, a Don't Let the Bugs Fall game, and various building and maker space resources.
