Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children develop reading skills when presented with books they are truly interested in. Within my classroom are English language learners who struggle to read. As a first year teacher, my classroom library is slim and consists of a single, 3 shelf bookcase. We could use many more books.
My students are from an extremely challenged socio-economic area.
They are almost all English language learners. However, none of this takes away from the fact that they are still children all the same, with the desire to learn and be engaged with what they are learning.
My Project
The books I have requested are those the children have helped me choose. Many are either award winners or by award winning authors. These high interest books will expose my students to high quality writing at their reading level. A child who loves to read will excel in school and life.
The students will talk about the donors who bought them the books they wanted for years.
Children at this age have lost the magic of Santa. Donating the books they want brings a little bit of that childhood magic back. Please consider being these students' literary Santa. Thank you.
