Readers Need Leveled Books To Borrow

My students need a class set of leveled books that they can bring home, read, and return to our take home library to ensure that they are reading 20 minutes at home daily.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Capraro's classroom raised $673

My Students

About half of my students are missing their reading homework on a daily basis. Their assignment consists of reading for 20 minutes and writing a short response. When asked why they do not have their work, they respond that they do not have any books to read at home.

The students in my class are in the 2nd grade and attend a wonderful school in a not so wonderful neighborhood.

My students love to read. This is demonstrated by the amount of groans I hear when I ask them to put their books away after independent reading.

My Project

My students need a class set of leveled books that they can bring home, read, and return to our take home library to ensure that they are reading 20 minutes at home daily. While we have one in the classroom already, the books are very limited and we scarcely have enough to go around for classroom use. If we were to receive a second leveled library, its sole purpose would be for the students to be able to take books home to read. They can then bring them back and select another to bring home. Many of my students do not have books at home and those who do rarely have them on the appropriate reading level. We require our students to read for 20 minutes each night as part of their homework. I feel that this would not only help them complete their homework assignments, but also improve their reading levels.

I love my students because they appreciate the smallest things in life, so I could only imagine their reactions to such a generous donation.

My students already have a love of reading, now they need the resources to foster and encourage that.
