My students LOVE to read, and enjoy the reading space I have created called the "Book Nook". Last summer, I purchased rugs, within my budget, for the space. They are falling apart and too small for my class to fit on during Morning Meetings and read-aloud or circle time. We need a NEW rug!
I teach second grade in Nashville, Tennessee.
My school is a Title I, urban public school. Most of my students come from poverty or homes that are just making "ends" meet. This year I have a group of very sweet, energetic second graders. My parents are very supportive and are doing what they can to help their children be successful in school.
This is only my second year in second grade. I am still working hard to collect engaging, high quality materials for my students to use to reinforce and practice the skills and standards they need extra practice with. They are high interest, engaging, and will meet the needs of my students at many ability levels. This rug is a high quality product that will last for years to come.
My Project
My students will use this rug many times a day! The "Book Nook" is a popular place for my class like be. They love to curl up in a beam bag or pillow and read, or just sit on the rug. We also use the rug daily for Morning Meetings, intervention time, and Closing Circle. The current rugs I have are falling apart and unraveling. They are also too small to accommodate my entire class. The rug in this project would provide more than enough space for all of my students to fit.
I have spent a great deal of creating a warm and inviting reading space for them filled with almost 1,000 books I have purchased from yard sales, thrift stores, or book fairs so that they have access to text.
This rug would enhance the space and provide a place for all of my students sit when we have Morning Meeting, Closing Circle, or intervention. The rug is used daily in our classroom, so having one large enough for everyone would make a huge difference.
