Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students' goal is to read 60 words per minute by the end of first grade. Every week they get to pick a prize for improving their reading fluency. Students practice their reading throughout the week at home with the help of their grown ups.
When students can fluently read the bridge to reading comprehension is built.
Having a treasure box in the classroom to reward them for this has really helped to keep them motivated. Students look forward to Friday, because they get to showcase how much they have improved in their reading accuracy. The party favors will be added to our treasure box.
