My students need a listening center, headphones, and a junction box.

My Students
I want my students to have the same advantages of students in more affluent schools. One of the biggest disadvantages of students from poverty is their lack of vocabulary. This should be formed as their parents are reading to them from infancy. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case.
While my students are immersed in poverty, I fight to inform them they are not held by their circumstances.
My students are amazing young people that are developing a passion for learning. My school is currently over 90% free and reduced price lunches. However, we have a community dedicated to breaking the poverty barriers.
My Project
My students will listen to books daily. Students need to hear what good reading sounds like. Being able to listen to reading without the stress of decoding words, builds confidence in them as readers. They will have time to look at pictures and comprehend the words on the page by simply listening to the story. By hearing what good reading sounds like, they will find more joy in books.
If I am able to get my students into loving books, they will be life long learners.
I feel that in between 2nd and 3rd grade, students make up their mind whether they like school or not. I want them to like school and like learning. Something as simple as a listening center can make a difference for my students as learners.
