My Project

I am a second-year teacher working on building my classroom library. Our current selection of books was inherited from a previous teacher. The books are outdated; they're too difficult to read and of low interest. The Xavier Riddle book set is intended to empower my students of color to see people that look like them in books. These books send the message that they can be successful and make an impact on the world.

Most of my 2nd graders are non-readers.

My goal is to build a library of decodable and predictable books that allow my students to feel successful while building a love of books. These books will also be perfect to send home for extra reading practice. They will decrease the homework struggle because they are at the students' level and hold their interest. Many parents and caregivers in my community are also striving readers so these texts will be accessible to them.
